House Dress: Ghiblicore

I designed this dress inspired by the movie Howl’s Moving Castle, specifically the clothing worn by the character Sophie. I wanted to create something simpler, cute, and not super froufy, but still seemingly inspired by Edwardian housedresses. Sophie’s clothes are also largely duller or darker colors, so I went with a dark green — one of my favorite colors.

I made the pattern myself. The piece includes pockets in side seams, pin tucks on front and back, and a front button closure.

I draped the bodice on a dress form, and made a basic skirt to attach.

Made from a dark green cotton, the dress features pin tucks in the front and back, and a button closure in the front. There are also built in pockets.
